How you can support our campaign in the Service Group Elections
Dear friends and comrades
Over the next few weeks UNISON branches will be discussing the forthcoming Service Group Elections in the union. The SGE committees are the national committees for each of the 7 sectors where UNISON organises. Voting starts on 28th April.
As you will be aware, last year the Time for Real Change in UNISON campaign succeeded in winning an overall majority on the National Executive Council (NEC). The SGE elections represent a real opportunity to further consolidate this position and to take the long overdue process of transforming the union onto a higher level.
Nationally, Time for Real Change campaign are supporting candidates in four service groups:
In Local Government
In Community
In Higher Education
In Health

How can you help us in the campaign?
Branches can make nominations for seats on the SGE Committees between January 10th and February 11th. Candidates are writing to branches with nomination requests. So these should be on the agenda at the branch committee. Branches can nominate candidates for each of the service groups where they have members. This is particularly important in relation to Community service group as its members are organised in health and local government branches in many cases.
If you are on the branch committee then please nominate the candidates we are supporting
If you aren’t on the branch committee talk to you shop steward/union rep and ask them to nominate our candidates
The more nominations we get the better!
If your branch agrees to nominate one of our candidates, the branch can inform its members as to why they did so. There are a number of rules and regulations about how they can do this.

The ballot opens on 28 April 2022 and runs until 25 May 2022. The results will be announced on 10 June 2022. We are confident that if we run a positive and energetic campaign we can win all of the seats we are standing for.
